EllisDon contributed to the delivery of the 13 km Edmonton Valley Line Southeast LRT, a design-build-finance-maintain project connecting downtown Edmonton to Mill Woods. The project integrates transit infrastructure with extensive public realm, environmental, and urban development works across a complex and densely serviced corridor.
The system includes 11 at-grade stops and an elevated transit hub supported by major infrastructure elements, including elevated guideways, a cable-stayed bridge crossing the North Saskatchewan River, a tunnel connection into the river valley, and a LEED Silver-certified operations and maintenance facility.
Construction required significant coordination across multiple infrastructure disciplines. The project involved substantial earthworks, including corridor-wide excavation, grading, site remediation, and land development works, alongside the construction of major bridge and structural components and the delivery of a large-scale maintenance facility. Extensive utility coordination and relocation works were undertaken throughout the alignment, including integration with municipal water and wastewater systems, drainage improvements, and corridor servicing. The project also included electrification systems to support LRT operations and associated power infrastructure.
In addition to core transit infrastructure, the project delivered major public realm enhancements, including the integration of parks and culturally significant spaces such as Louise McKinney Riverfront Park and Henrietta Edwards Park. These works incorporated landscaping, pathways, and community-focused amenities, alongside Indigenous and culturally informed design features embedded throughout the corridor.
The project required delivery in a constrained urban environment alongside active roadways, rail corridors, and environmentally sensitive areas, including the North Saskatchewan River valley. EllisDon applied an integrated design and construction approach to manage stakeholder coordination, complex utility interfaces, and construction risk while maintaining schedule and cost objectives.
